Invention Convention
2003 |

| The Invention Convention took place on the evening of May 29, in conjunction with Open House. Six weeks previous to the "convention" students were given handouts to help them come up with ideas and steps to take to create their inventions. Fourth and fifth graders were required to participate; it was voluntary for primary. Throughout this time students were introduced to inventors of all ages, races and both sexes. Three weeks after the introduction to the "convention" students were given another sheet they were required to turn in. The information on the questionare asked the name(s) of the inventors, the name of the invention, it's purpose and what materials were needed. Recycled materials were stressed and students could work in groups of up to 4. The invention could be presented as a poster, a model or the actual sized invention. They brought them to science the day before or the day of the "convention" and presented theirs to classmates. At the end of the school day on May 29 all inventions were brought over to the MPR and set up on tables. Parents, students and friends ventured through the room from 6pm until almost 8:30, amazed and proud of the wonderful creations of their children. Each participant will receive a "Patent Certificate" next week for his/her involvement in the 2003 Invention Convention. Mr. Scott and Mrs. Baughman, Science Specialists |
