The month of April was a very fun month. We celebrated a lot of birthdays in our class. Some kids brought in cupcakes. We did a duck Monart and we made a cute chick. We also did a log cabin Monart and finished reading Little House in the Big Woods. We made a cool journal to go with the story. We made Mother's day cards too. I got a new book to read it's called Katie Kazoo. Tonight the whole school is going to the Wind Festival; it's going to be fun. April was an awesome month!

We did leprechaun activities and art projects. We made a neat leprechaun picture that you had to put together like a puzzle. We started CAT 6 homework. We also made 3 leaf clovers with patterns and polka dots. March was a great month.

This February was awesome and wonderful. In February we went to the Chabot Space and Science Center and learned many things. We even got to see how a crater was made. At school we did important assessments for our report cards. It was kind of hard but I bet we all did great. On February 14, 2007 we had a a fun party for Valentine's Day. We passed out Valentines and we had treats, they were delicious. We also got to perform at our spirit assembly. We had a great month.
An Exciting Month
By Sarah P., Third Grade
1/31/07
The month of January was a lot of fun. In the month of January we performed our Mastering Math play. First, we did the play for the parents and siblings. Next, we did it for the afternoon kids. Last, we did our play for the morning kids. We also drew a penguin Monart and learned about penguins. All of the penguins looked great! Something else we did was write about our own characteristics. Everyone should be judged by their characteristics, which is what Martin Luther King Jr. said. These are some of the exciting things that we did in January.

By Benjamin N., Fifth grade
1/25/07
On Thursday, January 25, Ms. Paquette's 5th grade class went to the Livermore Civic Center Library. We had a tour of the library and we saw the dragon. The dragon was just a scanning machine. A very cool machine I must say. We met Penelope and Mary Ann, the people who showed us the library. We all thought this field trip was cool.
Room 301s Field Trip to Mission San Jose
Lezah P., Fourth Grade
12/12/06
On, Tuesday December 12, 2006, Mrs. Hedges class went to the San Jose Mission in Fremont. It was about a three-hour drive there and another three-hour drive back.
Everyone in the class had a ball (I mean ball by a fun time). First we had to get in our cars. There were a lot of drivers. Then we drove to the mission. When we finally reached our target, we waited a long time until our turn to go inside.
It was a wonderful building. We went into a room with about ten rows of seats. The most curious thing about it was a big white board at the front of the room. After a few minutes of watching the people in charge of fiddling with the camera, a movie appeared on the board and became a screen. We watched a movie all about Mission San Jose! Then we all explored the mission and learned new and amazing things about the mission.
The church was glorious! It had gold and silver painted wood all over and a real big piano! They hung angels on the roof for Christmas decorations. There were three statues in the building. One was a wonderful statue of Jesus Christ. It was in perfect shape. The 2nd one was a statue of a man. This work of art had a very exiting history. The 3rd statue was a pretty piece of St. Joseph, or, in Spanish, San Jose!
The graveyard, was everyones favorite. There were a lot of old and new graves. One was of a one-year-old. Some graves were giant! Others were smaller than a cat. We looked around, and then got in the cars and went home.

Barber of Seville
By Charlottle F., Fourth Grade
12/06
I was in the Barber of Seville Opera and it was a lot of fun. The Barber of Seville came to our school for an assembly. There were nine parts to be. There was Doctor Bartolo, Basilio, Footman #1, and Footman #2.
The San Francisco Barber of Seville is an opera that has been performed many times over the last hundred years. Rosina, the prisoner, is in love with a handsome man named Count Almaviva. Dr. Bartolo is a man who is keeping Rosina prisoner. His friend Basilio is helping him plan to have a secret wedding to Rosina. Figaro, a man who works for Count Almaviva comes in everyday to give Doctor Bartolo a shave. This opera is also very funny. Im sure that if you have not seen this opera before it would be a great show for you to see sometime.

How to Play Wall-Ball
By Erica S., Fifth Grade,
12/15/06
First, you get a bouncy ball. Then you have to go outside and find a green wall-ball court. Next, you need 2 or more players to play the game. You throw the ball against the wall and when you throw the ball you can not let the ball touch the ground. When the ball comes off the wall, the ball has to touch the ground and bounce once. After the ball bounces once, you throw the ball against the wall, if you drop the ball you run to the wall and touch the wall. Thats how you play wall-ball!
Christmas Around the World
By Katelyn J., Second Grade
12/14/06
The whole second grade goes around the world each day to learn about different countries. We are learning how they celebrate their winter holidays. We are going to Spain, Italy, Sweden, Mexico, and Germany. In Italy we learned how to play the dreidel game. In Mexico we learned about poinsettias and piñatas. In Germany we learned that Germans started the tradition of decorating Christmas trees. Christmas Around the World was fun. My favorite country was Germany because it was my classroom.
The Nutcracker
By Kirsten F., Third Grade
12/8/06
On Friday, December 8, we went to the Amador Theater to see The Nutcracker. A puppeteer named Jim Gamble controlled all the puppets in the story. Its a story about a little girl named Clara and it was Christmas Eve and her grandfather was a toy inventor. He got her a nutcracker and it was a nutcracker soldier. Then she went to bed and she had a dream about her nutcracker. The Nutcracker was fighting the mouse king. The mouse king was beating the Nutcracker so Clara took off her slipper and threw it at the mouse king. Then the mouse king was dead and the Nutcracker turned into a prince. So they went along to a place called the land of sweets. They saw the sugar plum fairy and they saw different kinds of dances. Then Clara woke up Christmas morning and it was her best Christmas ever. I really enjoyed seeing all of the Nutcracker puppets! I'm glad that all of the third grade classes got to go on this fieldtrip.

AR Turkey
By Elizabeth B., Fourth Grade
11/15/06
Gobble, Gobble, Gobble! We got rid of the AR pumpkin patch and we now have an AR turkey. So far, we have three rows of feathers on and otherwise bald turkey. He kind of looks like a pilgrim hat and a pilgrim collar. But I don't think this pilgrim will celebrate Thanksgiving with a turkey dinner!
The students in our class who participate and read will get to add an AR feather to our AR turkey for every AR book they read. I wonder who will have the most turkey feathers at the end of November!
The rules to feather our turkey are:
1. Read AR books.
2. Cut out a feather for each AR book you read.
3. Label the feather with your name and how many AR points you got.
4. Strategically place your feather on the bald turkey so he will be ready for this year's first snow!
Last month's pumpkin patch was ripe for the picking with more than sixty pumpkins representing more than sixty books read by our class! Grace N. had the most pumpkins and Anish P. had the most points. Congratulations to everyone who participated
we all win when we gobble up books!
Oh no! Got to go! The turkey is getting loose!
Trick-or-Dooring
By Peter L., Fourth Grade
10/27/06
Health, health, health. Is there ever any candy? Well, at Altamont Creek Elementary School there is something called Trick-or-Dooring. Trick-or-Dooring is when everybody comes to school at night time. Hmm what am I leaving out? Oh yes! The candy! At school on Trick-or-Dooring night there is candy at every classroom. You take a bucket, say "Trick-or-Treat," and the adult in the classroom will give you 1-2 pieces of candy. If you dont think 1-2 pieces of candy is a lot, go to 50 classrooms, because 1-2 x 50 = 50-100 pieces of candy! Now thats a lot of candy! Remember to say, "please," and, "thank you" as you get your candy.
Trick-or-Dooring is around Halloween, so wear a scary costume. I was a wizard. Its always fun to see what everyone wears at Trick-or-Dooring night. Then, at school there is a Halloween party! More candy! Then at home most kids have a Halloween party! More candy! There was so much candy, I thought I was going to explode. But dont eat too much candy or you will be sick. If youre sick of eating healthy food, ask your mother to move to Altamonk Creek Elementary School and ask to go Trick-or-Dooring!
Trick A Door
Melanie B., Third Grade
10/31/06
Trick A Door was a fantastic event. It was very fun because you could go from classroom to classroom and get candy. My favorite classroom was Ms. Rossmans room because they had a steam machine and it looked like there was lightning. I also liked meeting my friends and going into the haunted house. Im so glad our school does Trick A Door each year.
Bill Harley
by Amanda G., Third Grade
10/31/06
Bill Harley tells the best stories. He told "Jack and the Princess" and "The Freedom Bird." I liked "Jack and the Princess" the best because it was so funny! I could picture it in my head. Like when the milk was in Jack's pocket, and when he put the butter on his head. I like Bill Harley because of his stories. (All of our third grades recently attended a Bill Harley Concert at the Amador Theater in Pleasanton....The Editor)
The Concert
by Kyle W., Third Grade
10/31/06
"La, la, la, la, la, huh!" We sang with Bill Harley. We learned "50 Ways to Fool Your Mother." I liked the "Freedom Bird" story the best. I got to shake his hand and take a picture with him after the concert. I had a great time at the Bill Harley concert. Bill Harley rocks!
SMITH FAMILY FARMS
By the Students in Mrs. Louthan's Class
10/16/2006
Our first field trip was to Smith Farms in Brentwood. Parents drove us on the thirty minute trip through brown hills covered with windmills. We parked in a dusty field and ate our snacks. Our first stop was to an old barn for a country music sing-a-long. We learned how to play and make instruments there. Next we headed to the loading area, kicking up a lot of dust on the way. Along came a tractor pulling a big cart to take us to the pumpkin patch. Everyone picked out pumpkins. Then we rode in the cart back to our cars to drop off our pumpkins and get our lunches. We ate in a shady picnic area. Some of us even saw Shrek in an old outhouse! In the afternoon we visited the farm animals and saw Wilbur, a baby Great White pig. Other animals we saw were a white horse, a peacock, and hens with an egg, bunnies, a goat, a donkey, two baby calves, and one very strange bird. Finally it was our turn to learn about bees and plant our own winter green or purple cabbage in a cup to take home. After we heard about the Miwok Indians and got to go in wicki-ups made out of tule grass. At last it was time to run around in a corn maze. We took a group picture and went back to school. Our first field trip was fun!
